ABOUT STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety.
What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is developed and managed by the International OEKO-TEX® Association, a group of 16 textile research and test institutes in Europe and Japan, with representative agencies and contact offices in over 60 countries worldwide.
If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, it means that every component of this article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.
The test is conducted by one of independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes on the basis of extensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalog. In the test they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. In many cases the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements. The criteria catalog is updated at least once a year and expanded with new scientific knowledge or statutory requirements.
All Lé Silk products are manufactured using STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® approved Mulberry silk which is safe for the skin and free of any harmful substances.
What products can be certified?
In principle, all textile articles in every stage of processing are suitable for a STANDARD 100 certification, starting from the threads to the finished fabrics and finished articles. According to a modular system every single component and ingredient is tested before the final article is allowed to carry the STANDARD 100 label. This includes threads, buttons, zippers and linings. The prints and coatings applied to the outer material are also tested for harmful substances according to the criteria applicable to them.
What are OEKO-TEX® product classes?
The product classes of OEKO-TEX® are classified according to their intended use:
Class 1: This product class includes products for babies and has the strictest requirements and limit values.
Class 2: This product class includes products that come into direct contact with the skin to a large extent, e.g. bedding, sleepwear, underwear, blouses, mattresses, etc.
Class 3: This product class includes products with no or minimal contact with the skin, e.g. jackets, coats, vests, belts, etc.
Class 4: This product class includes decoration materials. It covers all articles including initial products and accessories used for furnishing purposes, such as table cloths, curtains, upholstery fabrics, etc.
A OEKO-TEX® certificate is valid for a period of 12 months. It can be renewed for another year at the end of this period. This method is recommended to assure continuous product safety and efficient processes throughout the textile production process.
Based on its intended use, a tested textile product is assigned to one of four Oeko-Tex® product classes. All Mulberry silk fabrics, pillowcases and sleep masks at Lé Silk has Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Class II certification.
